Dodge to Cease Production of the Viper, New Car on The Way
Wednesday, November 4, 2009 4:24PM - By Chris Weiss
It’s a sad day for Dodge Viper fans (and car enthusiasts in general). According to Dodge CEO Ralph Gilles, Dodge will end production on its powerful sports car in July of 2010. Just 500 more Vipers are scheduled to roll off assembly lines between now and then, as Dodge seeks to preserve the value of current Vipers by not flooding the market with an extended production run. Luckily there’s a significant flip side. First, the final 500 Vipers are planned to be the most special Vipers ever. While you’re contemplating the details on what “special” might entail, also note that Dodge has a new sports car in the works, and it is set to be introduced in 2012. With the Chrysler/Fiat merger, Dodge will now have access to brands such as Alfa Romeo and Ferrari, so don’t be surprised if the Viper replacement is more stylish and powerful than the Viper ever was.
