Ford Mustang ABS Info
This weekend at the Daytona Test days for GrandAm Koni Challenge we chased an abs issue and learned a bit about how your guys' abs system works.
The Ford Racing guy was helping us a bit with his diagnostics and some troubleshooting.
Apparently the stock abs system is completely inadequate for almost any kind of track driving. I was told that the g's that a race car will pull are not in the programming for a stock based system.
The good news is that Ford Racing has a new abs body (we installed it on our GS car this weekend) as well as a new abs controller that will solve these issues. I assume they are catalog parts, but we didn't really get into that. He did say that the new abs computer is completely tunable for different tires, brakes, etc. Now, I don't know if that means anyone can tune it, or that only Ford Racing can tune it.
It sounds like this is a must have for any mustang on track. Worth a closer look for sure.
On a side note the Roush team was in the garages next to us and were really cool. Being a small team I have to borrow a lot of stuff that we may not have brought with us and they were always willing to lend a helping hand. At one point during the afternoon Jack Roush Jr. set the fastest lap of the weekend. We will be racing against them at the end of the month, but they are great guys.

Best of luck at Daytona. Daytona = Smooth for a long Time.
I don't want to usurp the Roush guys, I worked with Jack Roush in my TransAm daze, and it would be hard to find a smarter racer, but it wouldn't be "G's". It would certainly be braking threshold (a small band of braking balance that is the difference of optimal braking and wall smacking), considering racing tires would grip far beyond DOT type tires, and it could be deceleration "rate" (high change in rotation of the rotor) that a stock ABS system couldn't handle, but "G's" are a measure of force, not a state of being.
Sorry, I'm a pain in the ass when it comes to an opportunity to act like a fool.

I agree. It wasn't the roush guy that said that, it was the factory Ford Racing guy that said that. Or I may have misquoted. I'm sure its the resolution level in the stock programming that needs to be enhanced. Where a street tire would be either rolling or locked a race tire could have various levels in between never seen with a street tire.

You got it.
I think it's all about rate and sensitivity.

l Love it.
Brakes only slow you down. There are cars out there that can help do that.

Why use up your own brakes when you can just borrow someone elses?

The same can be said about tires, can't you?
